To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to recommend Megan Priebe to your basketball program. I
have known Megan for two years. I am currently her Spanish 2 teacher at
El Camino Fundamental High School, and was her basketball coach at the
Junior Varsity level last year.
Megan has a straight A in my Spanish class, and I have no doubt that
she will maintain that grade throughout the year. However, it is her basketball
skills that I want to address. Last year, as a freshman, Megan had a tremendous
impact on our basketball program. She started every game at point guard.
That has never happened before in the seventeen years I have been coaching
at El Camino.
Megan has many qualities that cannot be measured by statistics. First
of all, she is a tenacious defender. Secondly, she is a great competitor.
Next is her toughness, aggressiveness, and work ethic. She is also a great
shooter. She was so good that she had my permission to shoot any shot,
anytime she wanted. Other coaches were frustrated because it is hard to
defend a shot made three feet behind the three point line. That is the
kind of confidence I had in her shot. Her best quality was her coachability.
Simply put, she was the most coachable player I have ever coached. Since
she was the only true point guard on our team, she was asked to play the
whole game several times. This required an adjustment on her part. I asked
her to lessen her aggressiveness so she would not get into foul trouble.
It was a challenge for her, but one she did without hesitation because
it made the team better. When she was injured at the beginning of one
game, she said that she could still play. After one minute I could see
that she could not continue, so I took her out for the remainder of the
game. She did not complain, but cheered on her teammates after that. She
made a three pointer and a two on one leg during her minute of play. She
would have played the whole game had I asked that of her.
Statistically, her impact was measurable. One needs to understand the
quality of the El Camino basketball program to fully see her impact. The
Junior Varsity team has won at a rate of 89% during the last seventeen
years. Many of the girls have gone on to win state championships at the
varsity level, and then play at the college level. Megan was the all time
leader in four different categories. Most Points-341, Most Assists-124,
Most Three Pointers-48, and Most Points is one game-28. She also made
the Top Ten in five other categories including Free Throws Made, Free
Throw %, Three Point %, Scoring Average and Most Points one game (3 times).
She also helped set four team records. Most Three Pointers in one season-149,
Most Three Pointers in one game-12 (twice). Most Three Pointers in one
quarter-8, and Best Free Throw %-54. There is no doubt that she would
have made the Top Ten in steals had I not asked her to play less aggressively.
She ended up eleventh in that category. There is no other player in my
seventeen years of coaching that has had that kind of impact on our statistics.
Last year was my most pleasant year in coaching. Megan was a huge factor
in that happiness. I recommend her without reservation. She will be an
asset to any program.
Sincerely,
Brian Andersen
